India deployed four ships and two aircraft on Tuesday, September 3, to search for three missing Coast Guard members after their helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea.
The incident occurred during a rescue operation late Monday, approximately 45 kilometers off the coast of Gujarat.
The helicopter was attempting to rescue an injured crew member from an Indian-flagged tanker when it made an emergency hard landing and ditched into the sea, according to a statement from the Indian Coast Guard.
One crew member has been recovered, while the search for the remaining three continues.
The wreckage of the helicopter has been located.
The helicopter crew had recently been involved in rescue operations during flash floods in Gujarat in late August, which left at least 28 people dead.
