MIANWALI:

The Punjab Police successfully foiled a terrorist attack on the Qabol Khel check-post of Issa Khel police station in Mianwali. According to a police spokesperson, twelve to fourteen terrorists targeted the check-post on the night between Sunday and Monday, using rocket launchers and hand grenades.

"The Punjab Police once again repelled the attack with full force," the spokesperson said in a statement issued on Monday. He noted that the police personnel stationed at the check-post were already on high alert. "As a result of heavy retaliatory fire, the cowardly terrorist attack was repulsed," he added.

While one policeman sustained a minor injury to his arm, the terrorists likely suffered significant casualties, the statement claimed.

Immediately following the attack, Mianwali District Police Officer Akhtar Farooq arrived at the check-post. The Issa Khel deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and station house officer (SHO) also reached the site with a heavy contingent of police.

Law enforcement agencies subsequently cordoned off the area and initiated a massive search operation.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar later praised the brave officers of the Mianwali police for foiling the terrorist attack. He noted that this was the ninth attack on Punjab Police by terrorists in recent months, all of which had been successfully thwarted.

"The Punjab Police stands as a solid barrier against terrorists at inter-provincial border posts. We will continue to crush the enemy's nefarious intentions in the future as well," the statement said.
