Sindh government plans new expressway for Karachi

The expressway project, linking KPT terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge, marks a significant infrastructure boost for Karachi

The Sindh government has announced plans to construct an expressway linking the Karachi Port terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the region, according to local media sources.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The project will include a 12.5-kilometre section of the road elevated above ground, while the remainder will be constructed below the surface, the chief minister stated.

The expressway will connect with the Malir Expressway at Jam Sadiq Bridge.

Chief Minister Shah directed the Sindh local government department to finalise the project in coordination with the PPP unit, noting that the road would be built under the PPP model using government resources.

In the same session, the PPP Board approved several other projects, including the establishment of the NDD Technology Park, for which the Sindh government has allocated Rs1.7 billion.

The board also endorsed a large-scale reforestation project, covering over 100,000 hectares in Sindh, with plans to seek assistance from the Asian Development Bank for part of the initiative.
