In a candid interview on the "Work in Progress" podcast, country music star Maren Morris revealed a chilling consequence of her decision to publicly criticize Morgan Wallen for his use of a racial slur.

In addition to receiving hateful messages herself, Morris shared that her young son, Hayes Andrew, also became a target of death threats.

Morris, a Grammy-winning artist, has never shied away from expressing her progressive beliefs, often advocating for marginalized communities within the country music scene. Her decision to call out Wallen in 2021 sparked a wave of backlash, but the singer admitted that the threats against her son were particularly harrowing. "The death threat portion for me as a young mother was...obviously, like, scary," she said. "And it wasn't death threats against me. It was against my son, too."

The singer expressed her disbelief that people could be so enraged by her criticism of "cruelty." She believes the intensity of the backlash stems from people feeling personally attacked when their idols are criticized, rather than seeing it as a condemnation of harmful behavior.

Morris's experience highlights the challenges faced by artists who dare to speak out against prejudice and discrimination within the country music industry. Despite the potential repercussions, she remains committed to advocating for change and pushing for a more inclusive and accepting environment.
