Reports are circulating on social media regarding the alleged death of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, also known as "Johnny Hockey," in a car accident. The Columbus Blue Jackets player, along with his brother Matthew, was reportedly involved in a fatal collision while riding their bicycles near their family home in Salem County, New Jersey. The incident allegedly occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday on Pennsville Auburn Road, as reported by 6abc, in what is being described as a suspected drunk-driving accident.

Despite the widespread rumors, no official sources have confirmed or denied the news. This uncertainty has fueled speculation and concern among fans and the hockey community. Journalist Steve Franklin, CEO of Sports Thinkers, claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that the news had been confirmed to him by his brother, a police officer in Salem County. Franklin posted, "My brother (police officer in Salem County, NJ) has confirmed with me that NHL Player Johnny Gaudreau has passed away in a car accident."

However, Franklin's credibility has been questioned due to past inaccuracies in reporting. Former NHL referee Tim Peel also commented on X, saying, "Morgan unfortunately this is true. Jonny and his brother were killed by a drunk driver tonight," but he did not provide verifiable sources.

As the rumor spreads, fans and members of the hockey community are anxiously awaiting confirmation or denial from official sources. The New Jersey State Police have reportedly received numerous inquiries about the incident but have not provided any official statement. The lack of concrete information has left many in limbo, with fans hoping the news is not true.
