Gas supply to Quetta and several other cities in Balochistan has been disrupted after a major flood damaged a key gas pipeline.
The incident occurred late Thursday night when floodwaters in the Bolan area struck an 18-inch diameter pipeline of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
According to an SSGC spokesperson, the damage to the pipeline has resulted in the suspension of gas supply to Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Kolpur Machh, Pishin, and surrounding areas.
The repair work on the pipeline will commence once security clearance is obtained due to the prevailing law and order situation in the region.
A recent report by the NDMA has highlighted the widespread devastation caused by the recent rains across the country, including the destruction of 2,293 properties, with 734 completely and 1,559 partially damaged.
The flooding has also impacted over 44 kilometres of roads and 30 bridges nationwide.
In response, the NDMA has urged all relevant departments to implement precautionary measures to manage the expected flooding and mitigate the effects of the extreme weather.
