Elon Musk's Hamptons stay sparks debate over poor WiFi, cell service, and tiny rooms

After Elon Musk criticized the notoriously poor cell service in the Hamptons during a high-profile event and in comments to Page Six, the owner of the hotel where Musk stayed, The Capri, says he agrees with the Tesla CEO.

Musk told Page Six that "the room I stayed in at [the] Capri was tiny" and mentioned that "the WiFi is in desperate need of an upgrade, along with cell service in general in the Hamptons."

The Southampton hotel, famous for its pool parties and popular restaurant Ketchy Beach, has rooms that cost around $1,000 per night.

Over the years, the trendy hotel has hosted events attended by celebrities like Howard Stern and Jennifer Lopez, as well as political figures including Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, and Attorney General Letitia James.

The hotel’s co-owner, Mayank Dwivedi, told Page Six that he understands Musk’s complaints about the WiFi quality on the East End and expressed interest in collaborating with the billionaire entrepreneur to address the issue, which has been a persistent problem in the upscale area.

"While some people come out East to unplug and unwind, the biggest titans in the world, Elon included, also need to conduct business, and the internet needs to be brought to 21st Century standards," Dwivedi said. "I’d love to work with him to modernize the entire network. It would be an absolute dream."

Regarding the "tiny" room, we hear that Dwivedi plans to transform the spot into a 5-star resort.

The SpaceX founder was in town for Michael Milken’s annual Hamptons Prostate Cancer Foundation gala, where he complained about the cell service in the area in front of fellow billionaires Julia Koch, Bill Ackman, Stephen Schwarzman, Rob Citrone, and Patrice Motsepe during a one-on-one chat with Milken.
