A thrilling teaser for Kill the Jockey, directed by Argentinian filmmaker Luis Ortega, has been released ahead of the film's world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The movie, starring Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, is set to compete in the festival’s prestigious lineup and will subsequently make its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it will be featured in the Centrepiece section.
Kill the Jockey is described as an absurdist comedy that delves into the life of a legendary jockey, portrayed by Biscayart, whose self-destructive behavior threatens both his career and his relationship with his girlfriend, Abril, played by Úrsula Corberó. The story takes a dramatic twist when, on the day of a critical race intended to clear his debts with mob boss Sirena (played by Daniel Gimenez Cacho), the jockey suffers a severe accident. After disappearing from the hospital, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery through the streets of Buenos Aires, all while being pursued by Sirena, who is determined to find him, dead or alive.
Ortega co-wrote the screenplay with Rodolfo Palacios and Fabián Casas. The film is produced by a team of prominent Latin American producers, including Benjamín Domenech, Santiago Gallelli, and Matías Roveda from Rei Pictures, along with Ortega and Esteban Perroud from El Despacho. Notable executive producers involved in the project include Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro, Isaac Lee, and Ron Broitman.
The film's production is a collaboration among several companies, including Piano, El Estudio, Snowglobe, Jacinto Films, and Barraca, with support from VIX, Pampa Films, Gloriamundi, Dim Films, and Fundación Ernesto Sábato. Protagonist Pictures is handling the film’s international sales.
