Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against Pakistan.
The incident occurred on the fifth day of the match. In the 33rd over, Shakib, frustrated after Mohammad Rizwan briefly turned away to chat with the Bangladesh fielders, threw the ball above Rizwan's head.
The unexpected action startled Rizwan and drew immediate disapproval from on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough, who spoke to Shakib about his conduct.
Shakib was penalised under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses inappropriate or dangerous actions involving cricket equipment, including throwing a ball at or near players or officials.

As a result of the violation, Shakib has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee and given a demerit point, which will remain on his record for 24 months.
If Shakib accumulates four demerit points within this period, he will face suspension from at least one international match.
Shakib has no other demerit points, with his last ICC sanction dating back to December 2018 during a T20I against the West Indies.
In addition to this incident, Shakib has also been named in an FIR related to a local murder case in Bangladesh, adding to the challenges faced by the experienced all-rounder.
