Jennifer Lopez has requested to drop her estranged husband Ben Affleck’s last name in her divorce filing.

According to court documents obtained by Page Six, the singer asked a judge to legally change her name from Jennifer Lynn Affleck back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez after adopting the actor’s surname when they eloped in July 2022.

Lopez, 55, had previously expressed her excitement about becoming Mrs. Affleck, describing the decision as “romantic” and “traditional.”

“People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together,” she told Vogue in November 2022.

“We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem.”

When asked if she ever considered having the actor take her last name, she replied, “No! It’s not traditional.”

“It doesn’t have any romance to it. It feels like it’s a power move, you know what I mean? I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person,” she explained.

“I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s OK, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”

Shortly after their wedding, the music star announced her name change by referring to herself as “Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck” in her “On the JLo” newsletter in July 2022.

J.Lo had previously planned to change her last name to Affleck when she and the “Gone Girl” actor, 52, were first engaged in the early 2000s.

She told “Access Hollywood” in July 2003 that she wanted to be known as Jennifer Affleck, “obviously,” and that her stationery would be printed with her married name.

On Tuesday, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck after two years of marriage.
