Police barred from carrying arms across Punjab

Orders issued by the Central Police Office state only CPOs, DPOs and SSPs will be authorised to carry armed guards

The police force deployed to maintain the law and order situation across Punjab has been barred from carrying arms.

Only CPOs, DPOs and SSPs will be authorised to carry armed guards. Orders were issued by the Central Police Office.

As per the orders issued by Punjab Central Police Office Head of Operation Branch, AIG Zahid Nawaz, apart from CPOs, DPOs and SSPs of the districts, officers are not allowed to have armed guards with them.

No officer or official aside from those listed will be armed. The letter was sent to DPOs of districts including RPOs and CPOs across Punjab including CCPO Lahore, RPO, CPO Rawalpindi.

The force on law and order duties will be provided with riot control kits including tear gas guns, shells, sticks, safety shields are made mandatory to carry in full.
