HYDERABAD:

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zainul Abedin Memon has instructed officers to take legal action against parents who refuse to administer polio drops to their children.

The directive was issued during a meeting, where preparations for the upcoming seven-day polio campaign, scheduled from September 9 to 15, were reviewed. While addressing the meeting, Memon said it is significant for every child less than five years of age to get administered with polio vaccine.

He urged officers to enhance efforts in low-performing Union Councils (UCs) and focus on addressing refusal cases, stressing the need for legal measures against non-compliant parents.

Additionally, Memon highlighted the critical role of police in providing security to polio teams during the drive.

He called on law enforcement to fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to the campaign's success.

Dr Bisma Memon provided an overview of the anti-polio campaign, stating that the goal is to administer drops to 400,000 children across 163 Union Councils (UCs) across the province. The campaign will deploy a comprehensive network of 84 Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) centres, 1,565 mobile teams, 160 fixed teams, 70 transit teams, and eight roaming teams. She added that the campaign's progress will be monitored by 385 area in-charges and 112 Union Council Medical Officers (UCMOs).

District Health Officer Hyderabad Dr Lala Jafar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Khaliq Baloch, and other officers from health department were also present on the occasion.
