The long-awaited Hulk Hogan biopic, which was set to star Chris Hemsworth as the iconic wrestler and be directed by Todd Phillips, has officially been canceled. The film, which had generated significant buzz due to its star-studded lineup and Netflix’s backing, will no longer come to fruition. In an interview with Variety, Phillips confirmed the news, stating, “I love what we were trying to do, but that’s not going to come together for me.”

Hulk Hogan himself echoed this sentiment during a podcast conversation with Chris Van Vliet, explaining that the project was halted due to business complications. “It was a situation where business-wise, Netflix kind of missed the date as far as a business situation,” Hogan shared. “I had a choice at that time to switch gears. My life rights and stuff are somewhere else now and there’s a lot of things that are getting ready to happen.”

Despite the setback, Hogan expressed hope that the film could still materialize with Phillips and Hemsworth involved. “Hopefully, [director] Todd Phillips and Chris Hemsworth will still want to play, there’s still a huge opportunity there,” Hogan added. He praised the script, written by Scott Silver, calling it “amazing” and likening it to some of his favorite films like Scarface and True Romance. However, due to a “business glitch,” Hogan decided to move on.

Chris Hemsworth had previously expressed uncertainty about the project, telling ScreenRant in May, “If there’s a great script and a story to tell, I’d love to jump into it. But there’s nothing official at this point.”

While the Hulk Hogan biopic may not proceed, rumors have surfaced that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity production company might have acquired the script for a film titled “Killing Gawker,” based on the Hulk Hogan vs. Gawker case. The project reportedly involves screenwriter Charles Randolph, though details remain unconfirmed.
