Pedro Pascal was reportedly suggested as a replacement for Phoenix in Todd Haynes’ gay romance film

Joaquin Phoenix's abrupt exit from Todd Haynes' gay love story, days before filming, has left the project in turmoil.

While Phoenix has a history of last-minute changes of heart, this time it seems the damage may be irreparable.   

Rumours are circulating that Haynes is exploring options to salvage the film, including recasting Phoenix's role, according to THR. Pedro Pascal's name has been mentioned, but his busy schedule and the existing casting of Danny Ramirez make it an unlikely fit.

The production team is also reportedly considering suing Phoenix to recoup the millions lost due to his sudden departure. However, it's unclear if this would entice the actor back, especially considering his hefty paycheck for the upcoming 'Joker' sequel.

Unless this is another one of Phoenix's infamous pranks, it seems this star-crossed love story might be doomed. The film's future hangs in the balance, with Haynes and his team facing a difficult decision: scrap the project entirely or find a way to move forward without its original star.
