Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema expressed his gratitude for the 91.1 million in German support for Pakistan's post-flood, climate-resilient reconstruction during a meeting on Wednesday. He also acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the two countries, which has included a total of 4 billion in development assistance from Germany since 1961, according to a press release.
The meeting took place between Cheema and German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze. The German delegation included parliamentarians, the German ambassador to Pakistan, and other senior officials.
Cheema welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for Germany's role as a valuable development partner. He specifically highlighted Germany's support in helping Pakistan attain GSP+ status, which has been instrumental in boosting the country's exports.
During the meeting, Cheema outlined key priority areas for Pakistan's economic agenda, including revenue generation, export-led growth, agricultural development, information technology, and human resource development. He emphasised that ongoing reforms are aligned with the framework agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The minister also lauded Germany's support for hydropower projects in Pakistan and the Pakistan-German Climate and Energy Partnership.
In response, the German minister highlighted the enduring strength of the Pakistan-German partnership. She announced that the German government will provide an additional 24 million for projects in sustainable energy and emissions trading in Pakistan.
