Phoenix shared a vivid dream he had experienced, in which his character, Arthur Fleck, was performing on stage. This dream resonated deeply with both Phillips and Phoenix, leading them to explore the idea of incorporating music into the sequel's narrative. The concept of Arthur, a character who struggles with social interaction, finding an outlet for expression through music was particularly appealing.
