Three people, including a traffic police official, have died in various areas of the city.
According to Shara-e-Noor Jahan police station SHO Faiz-ul-Hassan, 52-year-old Muhammad Aqeel Khan was stationed at the Peerabad Traffic Section.
Aqeel was killed in an accident in front of Govt Abdullah College, Banaras Colony. A person sitting on a truck also died after falling onto the road due to the accident.
According to initial information, the police officer was checking the documents of a truck with his team under the Banaras Flyover in front of Abdullah College when another truck coming from behind collided with the truck that had been stopped by the traffic police. As a result, the traffic police officer was killed, and the person sitting on the truck fell onto the road and was seriously injured, leading to his death. The accident is believed to have occurred due to brake failure of the colliding truck.
SHO said police have arrested the errant truck driver and investigation is ongoing.
Aqeel's funeral prayers were performed at the police headquarters Garden on Tuesday.
IG Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odhu, DIG Traffic Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, other officers and jawans of Sindh Police and the heirs of the martyr attended the funeral prayer. Meanwhile, 45-year-old Hanif, a passerby, was killed by a recklessly driven car near KDA Chowrangi in North Nazimabad.
