Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with a five-member delegation from Meta, led by Vice President for Asia Pacific, Simon Milner, on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Pakistan.
During the discussions, PM Shehbaz highlighted the immense potential within Pakistan’s IT and digital media sectors. He emphasised that, for the first time in the country's history, a record budget has been allocated for the promotion of IT.
The Meta delegation briefed the PM on their services in Pakistan and the Asia Pacific region, noting that the first AI competition in the region was recently held in Pakistan.
The PM directed relevant authorities to resolve any issues concerning Meta's operations in Pakistan, ensuring smooth and effective collaboration.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to work together towards the development and promotion of digital media and AI sectors in Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jehanzeb Khan, and other senior government officials.
