Danielle Fishel, known for her role in Girl Meets World, has shared that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 43-year-old actress revealed the news on her Pod Meets World podcast on Monday. Fishel explained that her cancer was detected "very very very early" due to routine screenings and is classified as Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is considered stage zero.
She confirmed that she will undergo surgery to remove the cancer but remains optimistic about a full recovery given the early detection. This announcement is a significant moment for her fans, many of whom remember her as Topanga from the 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World.
Fishel is currently consulting with a team of medical professionals, including oncologists and radiation specialists, and is making decisions with her family. Although she had initially thought of keeping her diagnosis private, she decided to go public inspired by author Glennon Doyle’s message about supporting each other through difficult times. Fishel hopes that sharing her experience will motivate others to get regular screenings and catch any potential cancer early.
On the podcast, Fishel's co-hosts, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, expressed their support, reassuring her that they are there for her during this challenging time. Friedle emphasized their commitment to supporting Fishel and affirmed that, despite some tough days ahead, they will be by her side.
