LAHORE:

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has criticised elements opposing an electricity bill relief package announced by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, accusing them of attempting to create discord between provinces.

Addressing a news conference, she said the Punjab government would fund the Rs45 billion relief package from its budget, reducing the electricity charge for consumers of 201 to 500 units per month by Rs14 per unit.

The senior minister said the previous government had left the country in economic ruin. She said the Punjab government had allocated Rs45 billion for electricity bills by cutting its own budget expenses.

The senior minister clarified that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had already allocated Rs50 billion from the federal budget for the consumers of up to 200 power units per month.

The relief will be applied to electricity bills of July, August and September at the federal level, and of the later two months in Punjab.

Marriyum Aurangzeb called upon other provinces to adopt Punjab's model and reduce electricity bills from their budgets.

She accused the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government of the PTI of failing to deliver on public welfare over the past 10 years.

Under Nawaz Sharif's leadership, the journey towards economic stability has begun in just four months, she asserted.
