Olympic hero lauds rescuers at passing-out

438 cadets trained for Sindh Emergency Service

Olympics gold medallist Arshad Nadeem participated as a guest of honour along with Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan at the passing out parade of 438 rescuers trained for Sindh at the Emergency Services Academy.

Arshad Nadeem said the rescuers are doing a great job. He emphasised that discipline and physical fitness are of utmost importance.

He also stated that he had won the medal for the nation, attributing his success to the prayers of the people. He vowed to raise the flag of Pakistan in upcoming international competitions as well.

Emergency Services Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer administered oath to 438 passing-out rescuers.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan paid tribute to Arshad Nadeem for bringing pride to Pakistan.

He also congratulated the Punjab chief minister for introducing the first air ambulance service in the province. "The rescuers have two key responsibilities: to save lives and to uphold the reputation and quality of the organisation," he said.

He said the rescuers from other provinces who had completed the lifesaving training in the academy were also carrying the message of brotherhood from Punjab.

Provincial Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique said Arshad Nadeem had made Pakistan proud on the global stage.

Terming the athlete a hardworking and humble person, he said the rescue office in Mian Channu would be named after Arshad Nadeem.

The minister also announced that .a new rescue office would be built 25 kilometres away from Mian Channu.

The cadets demonstrated their skills in emergency management during mock exercises of deep-well and water rescue, firefighting, urban search and rescue, rescue from confined space and from height.
