Karachi under urban flooding alert: PMD forecasts heavy rain and thunderstorms

Karachi is set to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms today (Saturday), with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issuing a warning for potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of the metropolis.

The city is expected to be under cloudy skies for the next 24 hours, with a high likelihood of rain accompanied by thunder.

According to the PMD's forecast, the maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to range between 30°C and 32°C, while humidity levels are projected to be around 81%.

Winds in the provincial capital of Sindh are currently blowing from the southwest at a speed of six kilometers per hour.

The Met Office has also issued a nationwide rain prediction for today, with Karachi expected to experience heavy rainfall both today and Sunday.

PMD's Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz expressed concerns about potential urban flooding in the city's low-lying areas due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.

The ongoing monsoon spell is likely to continue until August 25 across the country, with thundershowers expected in various districts of Sindh and Punjab during this period.

A day earlier, different parts of the country, including Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, experienced rainfall.

Additionally, rain was recorded in many parts of Punjab, including Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, and Kasur, as well as in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
