Manchester United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham in their Premier League season opener at Old Trafford, thanks to a late goal from new signing Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch striker, making his debut, found the back of the net just three minutes before the final whistle, rescuing an otherwise uninspiring performance from Erik ten Hag's side.
United started the match with high expectations, unveiling four new signings, including Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, before kickoff. However, despite a strong lineup and a lively atmosphere, the home side struggled to break down Fulham's defence during the first half. Zirkzee expressed his delight after the match, saying, "To win here in my first home game and to grab a goal, it couldn't be better." His late strike not only secured the three points for United but also provided a glimmer of hope for a successful season ahead.
Despite the win, the performance highlighted areas that still need improvement under Ten Hag's management, as the team aims to better last season's eighth-place finish.
