Complex’s recently released list of the top 50 Atlanta rappers of all time has ignited a fierce debate within the hip-hop community.

The rankings, which include notable placements like André 3000 at the top spot, Future at number 2, Gucci Mane at number 4, Young Thug at number 6, Playboi Carti at 12, and Lil Yachty at 24, have drawn mixed reactions from fans.

Some are praising the list for highlighting Atlanta’s rich musical legacy, while others are outraged by what they see as glaring omissions and questionable placements.

Social media has been abuzz with reactions, with fans expressing their disappointment and confusion over certain rankings.

One user commented, "I legit tossed my phone when I saw Lil Baby at 10. Him and Offset over Killer Mike is a criminal offense."

Another remarked, "Carti above Killer Mike? Preposterous."

The backlash to Latto’s high placement and the perceived underrating of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes further fueled the controversy.

This discussion comes at a time when Atlanta's influence on hip-hop is more significant than ever.

Just months ago, Kendrick Lamar accused one of the biggest rappers today of co-opting Atlanta's sound for personal gain, adding another layer to the ongoing debate about the city's place in the broader hip-hop culture.

Tyler, The Creator also weighed in on the issue, criticizing white rappers for appropriating and mocking Atlanta’s sound during an interview with Maverick Carter.

As the conversation around Complex’s list continues, fans are reminded of the enduring legacy and evolving nature of Atlanta’s hip-hop scene.

As Atlanta’s rap scene continues to evolve, it’s clear that the city will remain a central force in shaping the sound and culture of hip-hop.
