Flooding is anticipated in Punjab's rivers over the next 24 hours, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and local administration to be on high alert.
Significant flooding is expected in the Chenab River at Marala Khanpur and Qadirabad, with water levels potentially rising from 200,000 to 250,000 cusecs, according to a PDMA spokesperson.
In the Ravi River, flows of 40,000 to 55,000 cusecs are predicted at Jassar and Shahdara. Additionally, medium-level flooding is expected in the Nala Bein, while Palko will experience low-level flooding.
The Indus River is also facing low-level flood conditions.
Director General Irfan Kathia stated that in response to the anticipated flooding, PDMA and local authorities are on high alert with all necessary arrangements in place.
Instructions have been issued to keep administrative units adjacent to the Chenab, Ravi, and other streams vigilant.
Under directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, citizens are being informed about potential dangers.
DG PDMA has urged the evacuation of residents living in riverbeds and advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel near rivers and streams. He emphasized that flood relief camps set up by the Punjab government are equipped with essential services and urged people to prioritize their safety and cooperate with emergency measures.
Monitoring of water flow in all rivers, barrages, dams, and channels is ongoing. The PDMA control room continues to oversee the situation.
