LAHORE:

The Lahore Traffic Police has finalised comprehensive arrangements to curb stunt performances, particularly one-wheeling, on Independence Day, utilising advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems for monitoring and enforcement.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ammara Athar, during a media briefing, outlined the traffic management plan for the occasion.

She emphasised that the Lahore Traffic Police is committed to ensuring public safety by taking stringent measures against road blockages, stunt performances, and harassment.

The CTO stressed that celebrating Independence Day does not equate to disregarding traffic laws.

She announced that legal action would be taken against one-wheelers and those assisting them, including motorcycle mechanics involved in modifying vehicles for stunts.

"Mechanics found guilty of facilitating one-wheeling could face jail time," she stated.

In addition, cases will be registered against individuals causing noise pollution and riding motorcycles without silencers.

Underage drivers (below 18) found riding motorcycles will have their vehicles impounded at police stations and traffic sectors.

The Lahore Traffic Police, utilising AI systems, will crack down on 19 different traffic violations, including riding without helmets and overspeeding. Over 50 temporary checkpoints will be established on key roads on August 13 and 14.

The deployment will include 12 DSPs, 600 Senior Traffic Wardens, 22 lifters, 3 breakdown vehicles, and over 3,000 traffic personnel, all under the supervision of SPs.
