Netflix has officially given the green light to the animated “Ghostbusters” series, which was initially announced in 2022, as per report by Variety. Elliott Kalan, known for his work on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" revival, will serve as writer and executive producer.
While plot details remain under wraps, the 3D animated series is expected to echo the tone of the recent live-action “Ghostbusters” films, "Afterlife" and "Frozen Empire." Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who co-wrote both films, will also executive produce the series.
This marks the third animated series in the “Ghostbusters” franchise, following "The Real Ghostbusters" (1986-1991) and "Extreme Ghostbusters" (1997). The series is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, with production handled by Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc.
With Kalan's comedic writing expertise and the creative vision of Reitman and Kenan, the new "Ghostbusters" animated series is poised to capture the spirit of the beloved franchise while offering a fresh perspective for a new generation of fans.
