Top Federal Education Directorate post falls vacant

The post of the Director-General (DG) of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has fallen vacant after acting DG Tanveer Ahmed retired from service after reaching the age of superannuation on August 10.

A decision on the summary for reappointment of Tanveer Ahmed has not yet been made. It is likely that a senior officer from the Ministry of Education (MoE) or the head of a subordinate organisation will be given the charge of DG.

The post of the DG FDE, a subsidiary body of the Federal Ministry of Education, has also become vacant. Earlier, the post of DG fell vacant after the deputation of former DG Ikram Ali Malik was terminated. The ministry had assigned the look-after charge to FDE Deputy Director General Tanveer Ahmed in May 2024. He, however, retired from service on Saturday last.

Sources said that the MoE had not yet decided on Tanveer Ahmed's re-employment summary as the Establishment Division had raised objections over Tanveer Ahmad's summary, questioning why one officer should be reappointed to the position of DG for three years. They said that it had been suggested that the top position should be filled through an advertisement. Earlier, the ministry had advertised the position and suitable candidates applied but the appointment process could not be completed due to a court stay order, the sources further added.
