Monsoon rains continued lasing the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, accumulating water in the law-laying areas and disrupting the routine life of residents.
A pre-alert was issued when the water level in Nullah Leh rose by 10.5 feet to 14.5 feet.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted more rain today. The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has already imposed a rain emergency.
Rain continued intermittently throughout the Saturday night in Rawalpindi, while more rain was recorded in the areas of the federal capital.
According to the Met Office, the highest rainfall of 26 mm was recorded in Golra 26 mm in Bokra, 34 mm in Shamsabad, 16 mm in Syedpur and 18 mm of rain was recorded at Kachehri.
Due to heavy rain in Islamabad, the water level at the Katarian Bridge on Nullah Leh rose to 14.5 feet and 10.5 feet in Gwalmandi. An alert was issued at Katarian and Gwalmandi due to the high water level.
After the rains stopped, the water level in Nullah Leh dropped rapidly. The water level dropped to 6 feet at Katarinan and 5 feet at Gwalmandi.
Meanwhile, rainwater entered the low-lying areas of the city and Cantt. After the rain started on Saturday night, Wasa Managing Director Saleem Ashraf remained in the field with his teams and heavy machinery. During a pause in the rain, he continued to monitor the extraction of water from low-lying areas. The rainwater accumulated in Jan Colony, Tench Bhatta Last Stop, Peoples Colony, Mughalabad, Shalley Valley, and Range Road in Cantt areas of Rawalpindi entered the shops.
Similarly, the rainwater gathered in Nadeem Colony, Chamanzar, Arya Mohalla, Khayaban Sirsyed, Dhok Najjo, Raja Bazar, Liaquat Road, Nirankari Bazar, Ganj Mandi and other markets in the city also entered the shops and disrupted routine life.
