ISLAMABAD:

A citizen has accused Islamabad police of shielding a Sub-Inspector who was allegedly involved in illegal detention and torture at Shalimar police station.

In his complaint, Usman Ghani said he visited the police station with a companion for the solution of a matter between two parties. Upon arrival, SI Saiful Islam allegedly questioned Ghani's identity in a disrespectful manner. When Ghani asked for the officer's name, the SI allegedly dragged him to the lockup, detaining him.

The victim claimed that his requests for a glass of water were ignored and an hour later was coerced into signing a blank paper. He was also threatened with false charges.

Ghani submitted a written complaint to the DIG's office, but no action was taken despite several follow-ups. According to Ghani, after the media reported the incident, he received a call from the SDPO Circle Office. However, when he visited the office, the SP was unavailable.

Sources claimed that police officers delayed responding to Ghani's complaint, possibly attempting to prevent CCTV footage from being made public. The complainant expressed frustration over the lack of response from the Islamabad police.
