President Asif Ali Zardari has directed that Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his record-breaking performance at the Paris Olympics.

According to state media, the president will present the civil award to Nadeem in a special ceremony, recognising his outstanding contributions in the field of sports.

Following the President's directive, the Aiwan-e-Sadr has sent a letter to the Cabinet Division for the formal conferment of the award.

In the letter, President Zardari stated, "Arshad Nadeem's remarkable performance has made the nation proud on the global stage. His outstanding success in athletics is a source of pride for the country."

The Hilal-e-Imtiaz will be awarded to Nadeem under Article 259(2) of the Constitution, which empowers the president to confer honours upon Pakistani citizens for distinguished services in various fields.

Nadeem made history by winning Pakistan's first-ever Olympic gold medal in athletics, securing the top spot in the men's javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Games. His victory, particularly against defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India, has elevated him to the status of a national hero.

Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 metres, securing a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. He has become an inspiration for the youth.

Meanwhile, on the special directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a commemorative stamp titled "Azm-e-Istehkam” (commitment to stability) was issued on the occasion of Pakistan's 77th Independence Day. The stamp honours javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem by featuring his image.

The stamp, bearing the title "Azm-e-Istehkam," symbolises the nation's dedication to progress and stability.

The design also includes an image of Minar-e-Pakistan, highlighting the significance of the struggle for Pakistan's independence.

The government hopes that the stamp will educate future generations about the sacrifices made for the nation's freedom and the ongoing efforts for national stability.
