Brad Pitt is staying updated on the recovery of his son Pax, 20, despite being estranged from him, according to a source who spoke to PEOPLE. Pax, whom Pitt shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, was injured in an accident in Los Angeles on July 29. He was reportedly riding an electric bike or scooter without a helmet when the incident occurred, resulting in significant injuries. "He hasn’t had any contact with Pax in years, but he still very much cares," the source said regarding Pitt, 60, and his relationship with his son.
Pax was hospitalized following the accident, with witnesses describing a severe scene. One eyewitness recounted the aftermath, saying, "His mouth was filled with blood. When [he] was trying to speak, I saw a little tiny stream of blood coming out of the mouth." Pax was later moved out of the ICU on August 5, with a source confirming that he "suffered complex trauma" and is now beginning a "long road of recovery and physical therapy."
Angelina Jolie, 49, who shares five other children with Pitt—Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne—was "shocked and worried" upon learning of the accident. The source also mentioned that Pax's siblings are supporting him as he recovers. "Pax is still recovering. He's uncomfortable and will need further treatments. Still, he was very lucky. It could have been much worse since he didn't wear a helmet," the source added.
Although Pitt reportedly has "virtually no contact" with his adult children, he maintains visitation rights with his younger kids under the terms of his ongoing divorce negotiations with Jolie. The divorce proceedings, which began nearly eight years ago when Jolie filed in 2016, are still unresolved.
