Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Red Hot Chili Peppers to pass Olympic torch from Paris to Los Angeles

The handover of the Summer Olympic Games from Paris to Los Angeles just got a lot more exciting.

According to multiple sources, performances by Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are slated to be featured in the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Games on Sunday, as reported by Variety.

These artists will perform from Los Angeles in a combination of pre-recorded and live segments.

Producer Ben Winston, who has experience with major live music events like the Grammy Awards and CBS’ 2021 “Adele: One Night Only” special, is working closely with French producers for the Closing Ceremony.

This week, tension surrounding live music events has escalated after Austrian authorities thwarted a terrorist plot targeting Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” in Vienna.

Two senior officials familiar with the planning for the surprise L.A. concert reveal that security and crowd control have been major concerns for local officials, even before the troubling news from Vienna.

Given the potential threats from air, land, and sea, security for the Los Angeles performance will be extensive and costly.

In light of these heightened security concerns, Variety has agreed not to disclose the performance location.

During the Closing Ceremony, the musical performances from Los Angeles will follow a much-anticipated stunt by Tom Cruise, details of which were leaked last week.

Cruise is expected to perform a series of death-defying motorcycle stunts in France, culminating in a prerecorded segment where he parachutes down near the iconic Hollywood sign.

The L.A.-based artists will then take center stage.

It’s easy to see why Eilish, Snoop, and the Chili Peppers were chosen.

Billie Eilish, one of the most significant pop stars of the past decade, is a Los Angeles native who released a 2021 concert film titled “Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles.”

Snoop Dogg, a Long Beach native and fan favorite during his on-air commentary for NBC at the Paris Games, is synonymous with West Coast rap.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who rose from L.A.’s punk scene in the 1980s, have a signature anthem in their 1999 hit “Californication,” which celebrates the unique culture of Los Angeles.

At the conclusion of Sunday’s Closing Ceremony, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass will receive the Olympic Torch, symbolizing the city’s role as the next host. She’ll bring it back to L.A. as the countdown begins for the 2028 Summer Games, scheduled from July 14 to July 30.
