ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court has acquitted an accused facing double murder and rape charges after 21 years for lack of evidence.

A five-member Shariat Appellate Bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa heard different cases on Thursday.

Wazirabad Additional judge had awarded death sentence and seven-year jail term to accused Imran aka Mani in 2004. The federal Shariat Court upheld the sentence in 2012.

The accused filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Shariat Court verdict in 2012. After six years, SC Shariat Appellate Bench accepted the appeal for hearing.
