The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched a crackdown on business concerns that have failed to install the mandatory electronic invoice monitoring system (EIMS).
Following directives from PRA Chairman Nauman Yusuf, more than 100 restaurants have been served show-cause notices for non-compliance. Additionally, the PRA has issued warnings to restaurants that have installed the system but failed to issue receipts.
"This measure is aimed at enforcing the proper use of the system and preventing potential revenue leakages," the PRA said in a statement.
Under revised regulations, it is mandatory for restaurants with annual income of Rs6 million or more to install EIMS. Previously, it applied only to the business ventures with annual income of Rs10 million or more.
"The Punjab Revenue Authority remains steadfast in its efforts to promote fair business practices and enhance revenue collection through effective monitoring mechanisms," it emphasised.
Earlier, the PRA achieved a significant milestone by collecting revenue of over Rs239 billion in fiscal year 2023-24, up 20% compared with receipts of Rs200.1 billion in the previous year.
"This is a great achievement as it is the highest-ever collection by any provincial revenue authority," a PRA spokesperson said.
