India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, has emphasised the need for the team to address their batting performance against spin bowling following their recent 2-0 defeat in the three-match One-day International series against Sri Lanka.

Despite positive aspects, such as the performance of their own spinners, Rohit highlighted significant areas that require improvement.

Speaking after the series loss, Rohit acknowledged that while there were some positive elements, the team must focus more on addressing their shortcomings rather than just celebrating the positives.

He stressed the importance of analysing their performance and preparing for similar conditions in the future. “There are many areas we need to look at rather than just focusing on the positives,” Rohit stated. “We will review what needs to be done and how we should adapt to conditions like these.”

India’s next One Day International (ODI) series is scheduled for January against England, leading up to the Champions Trophy in 2025. The team also faces a significant break from international cricket until late September when their home Test season resumes with a series against Bangladesh.

Rohit downplayed the impact of the series loss, asserting that it is not catastrophic. “A series loss doesn’t mean the end of the world,” he said. “The team has been playing well over the past few years. While losing a series here and there is part of the game, what matters is how we respond and how we come back stronger.”

The focus will be on addressing their performance against spin, a critical aspect that contributed to their series defeat. Rohit’s comments underline the need for the team to reevaluate their strategies and prepare thoroughly for upcoming challenges.
