In a tragic incident, an Imam (prayer leader) in Gujrat, Punjab, allegedly killed his three-month-old daughter out of frustration over not having a son, local police reported on Thursday.
According to Gujrat police, the suspect, identified as Ali Ahmed, had been married for two years and was the father of an only daughter. The brutal act occurred when the father forcibly took the infant from her mother and threw her into the Head Khokhar Canal in front of his wife’s eyes.
Dinga Police Station officials stated that the suspect lured his wife, Maryam Ayesha, and their three-month-old daughter, Zainab, to the canal under false pretences.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ahmed harboured resentment over not having a son, which led him to commit the heinous crime.
The police confirmed that Ali Ahmed, who serves as an Imam at Mojianwala Mosque, has been arrested, and a murder case has been registered against him at Dinga Police Station.
