Kanye West has admitted he was under the influence when he shared an antisemitic tweet in October 2022 that cost him several business deals and caused tons of public backlash.

“I was drinking when I put up the DEFCON tweet,” the “All Falls Down” rapper, 47, said in an episode of Candace Owens’ podcast, “Candace,” which was filmed in 2022 but just released Wednesday.

“You wanna know what alcohol I had inside me? Hennessy. It turns us gray. The demons [come out].”

When the 35-year-old questioned West about why he hadn't mentioned this detail earlier, West responded that he didn’t want his statements to be “discredited” since he still believed them to be “truth.”

This isn't the first instance where West, who changed his name to Ye in 2021, has attributed his poor behaviour to alcohol.

Six years after the “Power” rapper disrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, he reflected on the incident at the 2015 VMAs, partially attributing his actions to alcohol.

“If I had to do it all over again, what would I have done? Would I have worn a leather shirt? Would I have drank half a bottle of Hennessy and gave the rest of it to the audience…?” he said when accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the time.

“After that night, the stage was gone, but the effect that it had on people remained.”

Despite his excuses, West’s actions in 2009 and then in October 2022 have left a lasting impact.

Almost two years ago, the Yeezy founder had a late-night tirade on Twitter, now called X, and posted, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.
