Christine Lakin recently shared her experience of being unexpectedly let go from Netflix’s "Fuller House" on Jodie Sweetin’s "How Rude, Tanneritos" podcast. Lakin revealed that she was nearly cast as a recurring character on the sequel series to "Full House," but was fired just days before the table read.
Lakin described her initial excitement, stating she had a "great" meeting with the show's creator, Jeff Franklin, and was "stoked" about the opportunity. However, two days before the table read, she received a call from her manager. "I got a call from my manager saying, 'Yes, something happened. They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite,'" Lakin recounted.
The following day, her manager informed her that she had been let go. Lakin was shocked and questioned what went wrong, to which her manager replied, "They just said they’re rewriting the character and they’re not going to need you anymore." Lakin, who did not even get to attend a table read, found the situation "strange" and inquired with a writer, who also did not know the reason for her firing.
Lakin speculated that her departure might be linked to a past incident involving Candace Cameron Bure’s brother, Kirk Cameron. She participated in a 2012 Funny or Die video that mocked Cameron for his public comments about the LGBTQ community. "It was funny. It was a satire," Lakin said about the video. She suggested that this might have caused "bad blood," leading to her not being wanted on "Fuller House" seven years later.
Reflecting on the experience, Lakin said, "It was a bummer for me. It really was."
