NAWABSHAH:

Relentless monsoon rainfall for 10 hours has wreaked havoc in Nawabshah, submerging commercial centres and slums under water. Roads have turned into waterways, and the drainage system has failed to manage the situation. Ninety per cent of the area remains flooded hours after the cloudburst stopped. The prolonged power outage further compounded the difficulties for residents.

The monsoon rain, which has been continuing for last nights, has damaged roads, turning them into rivers and drains. The resulting deluge has paralysed daily life, with water seeping into homes and shops, confining residents to their houses.

The current conditions are reminiscent of the devastating floods of 2022. Several areas are under water. Elected officials and municipal staff have struggled to manage the drainage system despite warnings from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Sindh government. The weather forecast indicates that Nawabshah received 131 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours.

Citizens urged President Asif Ali Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, who is MNA from the district, to address the current situation and ensure timely drainage solutions for future monsoon seasons. Apart from flooding, residents are facing disruptions in their daily lives due to extended power outages caused by the storm. Mayor Qazi Rashid Bhatti assured the public that municipal staff are working to pump out the water and restore normalcy.
