LAHORE:

Three models for the Apni Chat... Apna Ghar programme were approved in principle during a meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The chief minister issued directives not to receive service charges from those who acquire loan for getting a plot under the scheme.

The CM will launch the programme on August 14.

Model houses have been constructed under a pilot programme for the housing initiative. CM Maryam Nawaz called for including living room in the building plans of the model houses. She also ordered the launch of a toll-free number for facilitating the applicants. The Punjab Information Technology Board will prepare a portal for online submission of the applications.

Provincial Housing Secretary Asad Ullah Khan said while briefing the participants of the meeting that application form for the programme could be acquired from the offices of the deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners. Owners of plots measuring one to five marla can acquire interest-free loan for building houses. The house owners will be provided the facility to pay their loans in soft instalments.

The PC-1 for building triple-storey apartment on state land has been approved and a feasibility study in this regard will be conducted soon.

House measuring three and five marla will be given to the Punjab Housing and Town Planning allottees in private schemes. The owners will repay the loans in five years after getting the homes in the private schemes. Officials said the Punjab government will grant subsidy in order to reduce the burden of construction cost of houses in the private scheme.
