‘Ignored for 32 years’: Afzal Khan expresses discontent over lack of national recognition

Veteran Pakistani film star Afzal Khan, popularly known as Rambo, has lamented that despite working in the Pakistani entertainment industry for three decades, he has yet to receive an award like the Pride of Performance.

Recently, Rambo appeared with his wife, former film actress Sahiba, as a guest on a private TV channel's morning show, where they discussed their personal lives and showbiz careers.

Speaking about the awards given to Pakistani artists, Rambo said that in the past, there was only one award show where all actors, films, and dramas were recognized. Now, every TV channel hosts its own award shows, which he believes is wrong.

He suggested that there should be a single award show for the entire Pakistani showbiz industry, where films and dramas from all TV channels are brought together and awards are given in each category.

"I have received Nigar and other film awards in the past," he said. "But I feel disappointed that despite working for 32 years and acting in 200 films, I have yet to receive an award like the Pride of Performance."

Rambo added that nowadays, awards are given based on connections, and he does not want any award that comes through recommendations or greetings.

"An award given on merit brings true pride; a recommended award does not bring genuine happiness," he said.

Rambo appealed to those who distribute awards, saying, "Please don't give me an award just because of this interview. I don't want such an award."

He also mentioned that his mother-in-law, Nishoo Begum, has yet to receive a presidential award, so he feels he has no right to complain.
