The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a Notice to Airmen (Notam) due to concerns of aircraft slippage on the Jinnah Terminal Airport runway during monsoon rains.
The CAA administration has advised pilots to exercise caution during takeoff and landing. According to the Notam, runway 25L may become slippery due to rainwater accumulation.
To prevent any accidents, all pilots are urged to be extremely careful during landing and takeoff on the wet runway. The CAA has also directed all airlines, training institutions, and charter aviation companies to inform their pilots and provide necessary training on this matter.
Aircraft slippage refers to the unintended lateral movement of an aircraft along the runway, which can occur during takeoff or landing. This phenomenon can happen due to various factors such as wet or icy runway surfaces, strong crosswinds, or improper landing techniques.
When the runway surface is slippery, the tires of the aircraft may lose traction, causing the aircraft to skid or slide sideways rather than maintaining a straight path.
