Two children paralysed by poliovirus

ISLAMABAD:

Two more children have been paralysed by poliovirus in Balochistan, taking the tally for the current year up to 11.

In another development, the wild poliovirus (WPV1) has been found in environmental samples of Khuzdar and seven previously positive districts taking the total number of districts hit by the virus to 57.

According to the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio at the National Institute of Health (NIH), new polio cases have been found in Patri union council of Jhal Magsi, where a three-year-old child was found infected by the virus and a 1.5-year-old child was also found infected by the virus.
