LAHORE:

Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Pervaiz Butt has announced that the provincial government will soon formulate rules under the Women's Protection Act.

Emphasising the urgent need to enhance the police investigation and prosecution systems, she expressed concern over lack of conviction of perpetrators of violence against women in courts.

During a meeting with representatives from various non-governmental organisations on Saturday, the PWPA chairperson highlighted the importance of virtual police stations in providing justice to affected women on a priority basis. She stated that violence against women was intolerable. "We must collectively change the mindset of society."

The increasing incidents of violence against women were alarming, with the case of Sania Zahra in Multan being a notable example, she added. Such incidents are reported daily, underscoring the need for an improved police and prosecution system., she said.

Hina Pervaiz expressed deep concern over the lack of convictions of offenders in courts, deeming it one of the most troubling issues. She reiterated that the Punjab government was in the process of drafting rules for the Women's Protection Act.

She urged the heads of all private and public institutions to fulfil their responsibilities in this regard.
