United States Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Andrew Schofer and Consul General in Lahore Kristin Hawkins welcomed 300 new students in Multan to the US government-funded English Access Scholarship Programme.
The programme offers an opportunity for youth aged 13 to 20 years from disadvantaged communities to improve their English language skills, learn about American culture and develop leadership abilities.
“It develops future leaders by teaching leadership skills that extends beyond the classroom and into practical life,” said Schofer.
Since 2004, more than 27,000 Pakistani students have graduated from the programme, including more than 6,000 in Punjab.
The US mission is sponsoring English programme in Faisalabad, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
The DCM also visited the Lincoln Corner at the University of Education in Vehari. The corners at universities offer a space for dialogue, where students can use technology and learn employable skills. They also provide access to resources on exchange programmes, studying in the US, scholarships and English language learning.
DCM Schofer attended the Pakistan-US Alumni Network’s South Punjab Chapter reunion.
