Harris through the 2024 presidential election as reported by Deadline. Season 50 of "SNL" will premiere on September 28. Rudolph's return comes as the production of her Apple TV+ comedy series "Loot" has been pushed back to accommodate her SNL schedule. Both "Loot" and "SNL" are produced by Universal Television and Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video.

Rudolph first played Harris on "SNL" in December 2019, earning an Emmy for guest actress in a comedy series for her performance in a presidential debate sketch. She continued to play Harris throughout the 2020 election cycle, coining the nickname “Funt,” short for America’s Fun Aunt, while performing alongside Jim Carrey’s portrayal of Joe Biden.

Rudolph, an "SNL" cast member from 2000 to 2007, reprised her role as Harris when she hosted the show in March 2021, which earned her another Emmy for guest actress in a comedy series. She is also nominated for another Emmy for her latest hosting stint on May 11, 2024.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Harris is expected to feature more prominently in "SNL" sketches, especially as she becomes the official Democratic nominee. It is anticipated that Rudolph’s Harris will face off against "SNL" cast member James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of Donald Trump in a debate sketch, regardless of whether the real candidates participate in a debate.
