Kishmala, Gulfam at 14th in pistol event

Pakistani shooters will have room to improve in upcoming event

Pakistan’s Kishmala Talat and Gulfam Joseph competed in the mixed 10m Air Pistol team event and finished in 14th place with a total of 571-17x at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre on Monday.

The pair also practiced for the event on Sunday afternoon. It was their third outing at the Games, where they competed in the 10m women’s and 10m air pistol men’s events and finished in the 31st and 22nd places, respectively.

In the mixed team event, Turkey’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec topped the qualification round with a total of 582-18x and also managed to equal the qualification Olympic record.

They will fight for the gold medal with Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec, who scored 581-24x.

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot forming India 1 team qualified for the bronze medal fight with a total of 580-20x in the qualification.

They will face Republic of Korea 1’s Jin Ye Oh and Wonho Lee in the third-place fight.

They totaled 579-18x.According to the rules for the 17 teams competing in the event, the top four teams from qualification will go further. Gold/Silver Medal Match was composed of the Mixed Teams in positions 1 and 2 and the Bronze Medal Match was composed of the Mixed Teams in positions 3 and 4.

The finals of the event will take place on July 30.

Pakistan’s coach was hopeful for a better performance compared to the previous event and remained optimistic.

The Pakistani shooters will have room to improve as Talat will participate in the rapid-fire sports pistol event on August 2. Then the third shooter Ghulam Muhammad Bashir will compete in the rapid-fire pistol on August 4.
