The Environment Protection Department has approved the special numbering to go on all brick kilns and the appointment of volunteers for immediate reporting of crop waste burning incidents in the kiln fields in order to control environmental pollution and smog this smog season.
The process of printing special numbering on the kilns in bold letters has been started. The numbering will help identify and keep of the different kilns across the district.
Additionally, one to two volunteers will be recruited from each village union council, who will be given a special app through which they will submit reports of any fire that may have broken out in the kiln or the field.
As soon as the information is received, the local police station, assistant commissioners and field staff of the department will reach the spot and will take strict legal action against the concerned owner including heavy fine and filing FIR. Volunteers should be duly registered for this purpose.
Currently, there are 120 kilns remaining in Rawalpindi district and 40 kilns in Islamabad district. When earlier, there were 200 kilns in Rawalpindi district and 65 kilns in Islamabad district.
