Intermittent rain lashes twin cities

Causes water levels in Nullah Leh to rise, prompts warnings for relief agencies

Intermittent spells of rain in the twin cities of Rawalpindi, Islamabad and surrounding areas since late last night have made the weather pleasant.

The highest rainfall was recorded at 84mm in Syedpur. In other areas such as Golra, it was recorded at 61mm, 37mm in Sector H-8, 30mm in Nokra, 2mm in Shamsabad and 31mm in Kachhari.

Consistent rain led to water levels in Nullah Leh rising up to 13 feet. However, after the rain subsided, the level gradually decreased. The water level of Nullah Leh also rose to 12 feet at Katarian and 11 feet at Gawalmandi, following which a pre-alert warning was issued for relief agencies in Katarian and Golmandi. Rescue 1122, WASA and management staff have been put on alert.

The rain continued intermittently since Saturday night in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and its surroundings. Heavy rain hit the cities during the night and in the early morning, bringing the temperature down. The weather remains cloudy in the twin cities. The conditions called for continuous monitoring of Nullah Leh, which is ongoing.
